A secret place makes the heart beat a bit faster. It stays hidden from the world. Nobody sees it, nobody has an opinion. It is one’s own.
Sometimes when we travel, there will be a moment that makes us pull to the side of the road, hop out, take a look, grab binoculars, pick up the camera. There isn’t an official lookout. In fact, the other motorists pass you by with looks of “what is she doing there?”
That’s a secret place in plain sight.
Then there are those secret places that are forever in your heart. These are places with true “heart”. The spots that resonate with you.
The picture at the top is my secret hot tub amongst the dandelions. It is a horse trough and was a gift. Enough said.
Some secret places are a secret at all, but it is so much more thrilling to think they are all yours. This hot spring in the middle of nowhere was one of those. And yes, we did put on our bathing suits in the freezing cold to hop in.
Some of the best secret places are on back roads. Not the back roads that we see on social media, the back roads we find on a map. Sometimes they are just boring and then, every once in a while, crazy moment.
This was one of those moments. Not a great photo, but crazy town. Those are all antlers! I would drive a hundred miles to find this stuff. Oh, wait, we did drive that far.
No guide book ever covers this. Wha-hoo, road trip adventuring.
I hope you get out and find some secret spots!
PS Be a good steward of the land. Secret spots need to stay pristine.
