In the centre of the province of British Columbia there is a chain of lakes that is famous as a paddling circuit. It is well known to Europeans, oddly unknown amongst locals.
In August we paddled the multi lake circuit and it was one our favourite trips. The trip took us seven days and we followed every shoreline at a modest pace. Our routine was to get up and break camp early. With a bag of nuts and chocolate as well as water we would paddle through the early morning, stopping at 9am for a hot breakfast on a beach. The trip is a two day car trip from Vancouver so if you are planning the trip, you need almost two weeks. But it is well worth the effort!
I often hear from people, that they don’t think they can do such a trip from a physical point of view. I can assure you, that as long as you allow lots of time, which means packing enough food for ten days out, you will do well.
Pack lightly as the canoe can only carry sixty pounds of cargo. This means your backpack must carry the rest while portaging.
Don’t push yourself and you’ll be fine.
You CAN do these trips. Lean in and say yes to the adventure.
