Sometimes good stuff just happens. If I had known there was actually a highway called “The Loneliest Highway in America”, I would have been pointing the Bronze Babe straight there.

I didn’t know, but by chance I just said “Let’s get off the Interstate and take this road”.

The thought of adventure and doing new things was top of my mind during this, my first gap year.

We woke (in a motel) one morning to temperatures of -18C which is just cool, it is solidly, nose-freezingly, cold. That would be the first morning of our homeward journey. It deserved some warming up. A midday soak in a hot spring might be just the thing. And so, the plan was struck.

Here are the facts:

  1. Outside temperature was -6C

  2. The wind was blowing briskly

  3. The snow was falling

It was snapping cold. The water turned out to be so hot that we really couldn’t get in properly. That’s why I’m leaning back with my feet barely in the water.

And the Antelope! There were herds of antelope which I’d never seen before. They were struggling to find food at the end of a long winter. Delightful creatures possessing the most attractive bottoms in the animal kingdom.
